Learning More

Frailty can make it much more difficult to recover from even minor illness or injury which can have a significant impact on an individual’s life, often leading to poorer outcomes such as frequent hospital admissions, higher dependence levels and increased mortality. Therefore it is vitally important that everyone is educated around and understands how to identify Frailty and what to do next to improve outcomes and quality of life.

The NI Frailty Network believe that Frailty is everyone’s business and everyone should know what to do when they are delivering treatment, care or support to someone living with Frailty. To deliver on this, we have prioritised the development of a Frailty Education Programme for Northern Ireland.

In addition, we have been reviewing existing education programmes to consider what would be transferable to NI. We held at a workshop at the end of 2021, to sign off on work so far and we reached a consensus that:

  • A steering group would be established to lead on agreeing content, testing and implementation of the Fundamentals of Frailty Programme (Republic of Ireland)
  • Health Education England’s e-learning module should be made available to everyone
