Frailty Education Learning Module

To help increase awareness and improve understanding of Frailty, Health Education England have developed an e-learning programme which aims to standardise training and knowledge of frailty as a complex multi-system, long-term condition.

The programme is split into 3 tiers (1, 2a & 2b) as follows:

Tier 1 is aimed at the general public, third sector staff, porters, security staff, reception staff in primary, secondary and community services. This tier provides individuals with an awareness and understanding of what frailty is, how it is identified. frailty management and support available.

Tier 2a includes but is not limited to; first responders, rapid response workforce, care navigators, unregistered healthcare staff at band 2 to band 4, care home staff, band 5 and lower band 6 registered nurses in emergency services, pharmacist technicians, nursing associates, physician associates, GP’s, community and social services staff and commissioners or managers.

Tier 2b is for health and social care staff and others who are working in emergency departments and acute frailty services. This includes but it not limited to; GPs working in emergency departments, surgical and anaesthetic staff working with older adults living with frailty, consultant physicians, acute care social workers, same day emergency care workers, registrars and senior grade doctors in ED’s, GP’s with a Specialist Interest in Older Adults / Frailty, senior band 6 and 7 registered nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, and dieticians, consultant physicians, Band 7 and 8 pharmacists, emergency department advanced nurse practitioners, medical specialists (eg. Oncology & Renal), registrars and senior grade doctors in emergency departments , acute frailty practitioners.
